Precision T3500 crashes

Hi Guys

Bought a t3500 second hand. Looks well maintained, and seems to start ok - power button is solid green and no warning beeps, but when i went to load desktop the system shuts off immediately after a couple of minutes. Cant be turned on to try it again until it makes the noise you hear when you connect it to power cable for the first time. I had a quick visual inspection internally, and touched the GPU (Quadro FX3800), which was very hot, as if it had been running for hours. Green diag lights at start up seem to cycle as normal before just showing the hard drive icon. Please help

before windows could even load

    Hi

    Thank you for assistance

I thought that to be honest - the fan is turning but i'm thinking perhaps they connected the wrong cable to the GPU. Trying to figure out the PSU to expansion card cable assignment. I don't want to mess with it as it just arrived yesterday and i might have to send it back. Real pain  - im sure somethings overheating.

Once it crashes you cant turn it on for a few minutes, until you hear the same noise it makes when you connect the power cable for the first time. Possibly a safety feature letting it cool off ??

Do you know what the solid amber light on the board means ? Is that just an indicator of power to the system?

    Any help appreciated

    kind regards

Sadly no, no idea about that solid amber led. The ones usually indicating powers that i'm accustomed to see are green, so I'm not sure.

That clicking sound is normal on some psu on power-on, but this whole situation is not so good. I had a Fx3800 in a by now old workstation ( technically i should say i have, since i've kept the box as spare for emergencies ), and has never overheated. Plus the fan and temp would be on the low side unless launching something really stressing the card.

At this point, personal opinion... either the gpu has a slight issue, or is getting too much power from the psu ( and that by itself would be an issue, because would mean the psu is not working as specs ). I assume you don't have any gpu to test ?

You could also test the psu
