Dell Update on 08/14/23 Causing Issues With Docking Station Connection

Dell Docking station Issue Starting 08/14/23 immediately after install of 2 Dell Command updates

 

Dell Precision  7550 32mb Ram, 1TB SSD, Win 10 Pro

Dock WD19DC Precision Docking Station

Dual Monitors connected to Dock

Dock connected to PC with two prong USB-c cable

 

Morning of 08/14/23 received a notification that 2 Dell Command Updates were ready for installation.  I clicked install and they were processed.  Computer re-booted and I got a message

“You have plugged in a lower wattage power adapter, USB-c charging device, or power pass-through device.

Your system will continue to work, but may not perform at its peak.”

 

From that point on the computer was locked up.  I also noticed that only one side of the USB-c cable from the dock to the computer was lit.

The only way to get the computer ‘unlocked’, meaning I could type and use it was to unplug the USB-c cable from the dock.

I contacted Dell support and spent several hours going thru different sequences and steps including setting the BIOS back to default.  Nothing helped the problem and Dell suggested that a new docking station might resolve the issue.  They overnighted me a docking station but the issue and status is exactly the same.  Only one side of the USB-c into the computer is lit and as soon as I plug the new docking station into the computer it completely locks up.  Unplugging the USB-c frees up the computer.

 

Without the USB-c plugged in the laptop seems to function normally.

 

Does anyone have insight on this issue?  I've spent hours with Dell support.  They sent me a new docking station but the behavior was exactly the same with the new docking station.
