IDSDM data transfer rate
Hi.
What data rate can be expected from the IDSDM? Couldn't find a tech spec but I got 8 read and 5 write MB/s on a R320 server. That sounds like since USB 2.0 supports up to 480 MB/s.
Any comparable values?

Hi Chris.
BIOS, IDSDM and IDRAC are up to date (not the Lifecycle Controller). It's a 2 SD mirror configuration, although I currently experiment with 64GB cards and not sure if they are supported, since it didn't seem to accept the mirror and wanted to rebuild again. Haven't tried with 1 SD configuration yet.

Hello,
speed depend on many factor, first of all the SD card.
If you are saying that it ask to rebuild every time it could be an issue of one SD card also.
Can you try with 1 SD one by one?

Have tried with one of the SD cards in a R520 - same result. The cards are rated at 150/90 MB/s read/write.

Hello,
I didn't find a transfer rate specification, either. If you don't mind my asking, what are you looking to accomplish with the IDSDM? It's intended for use as a boot source for ESXi, is that what you're doing, or are you trying to set it up to serve another use? I'm trying to understand the goal and the impact of the number you're seeing, since I'm not seeing a performance figure.

I was evaluating the possibilities of IDSDM for other OS beside ESXi and I just wanted to have a number since ESXi boots take quite long compared to other cheap storage solutions...

the server is under warranty?
Did you tried both SD in the same IDSDM slot?
If we cannot know which are transfer rate for IDSDM we can also suspect an hardware issue on the card, so we can try the replacement of the module.

Hi Marco.
No warranty anymore. Tried one SD in both slots - same result. I guess the cards are fine, since I get 32/23 MB/s read/write with them in a regular workstation card reader.
Replacing a module without knowing it's designed / supported IO rate makes not much sense.
Will try the same on a R530 sometime, but it's in a production environment right now.kind regards,

I am not seeing specifics on the read and write speeds, but let me confirm a couple things with you.
Is the server up to date on BIOS and iDrac?
How is the IDSDM configured, are there 2 SDs installed?
