thank you to your reply.  my op is xp professional(dimension 4700).  Everytime when I insert blank cd or dvd to burn, I can't access to drvie d:. and I can paly regular DVD or CD but I can't burn. what's more some cd or dvd which I burned turns into blank.

I did what you said.  I restored syatem and sat back....and the problem keep going on me.

I simply can't access D:-is not accessible.  or insert disk to drive d: or incorrect function.

Is it because of the device or software(sonic record now)?

A few things to try. First, make sure Sonic DLA is not installed. This is known to cause problems with some drives.

Next, see if there is a firmware update for your drive in the downloads section of you support home page. To find the downloads and other information for your system, hover your mouse cursor over the Product Support button (upper left of this page), and select Downloads. Then enter your service tag number and operating system, and you'll find all the information you need.

Finally, try the Windows CD burning wizard. Open Windows Explorer, select the file(s) you want to write to the disc, right click the selected files, hover over Send to, then select CD-RW (or DVD-RW) drive. Windows will copy the files to a temporary location and a little (annoying) bubble will pop up telling you there are files waiting to be written to the CD. Click that and a box will pop up showing files on the disc and files waiting to be written to the disc. Click File, Write these files to CD.
