Dual Layer Disc Compatability

Hi, i have a Inspiron 6400 with a Optiarc AD-5540A ATA DVD/CD ROM drive and was wondering if i can burn Dual Layer DVD's with it. I have tried burning a CMC 8.5g 2.4x DVD+R disc using Nero 8 but get an error message before burning starts. Anyone help please?

Hi ps1971, To burn CD's or DVD's, you need an DVD/CD  R/W Rom drive. That drive you have looks to be just an Rom drive, Ie it is just for playing CD or DVD.

Hi Robin. It is a DVD/CD R/W drive (sorry, i missed that out) I have no problem burning CD's or standard size DVD's it's just the Dual Layer discs that won't work

The Optiarc AD-5540A DVD Burner is capable of
writing Dual-layer DVD media.  However, keep in
mind that Dual-layer media can be variable with
performance.  Not all DL media will work properly.
Many Users seem to have some success with Verbatum
    Dual-layer media.
