iDRAC8 on R720?

The idrac7 page says that 7 & 8 now share the same firmware, and that the latest is 2.10.10.10. When I go to the idrac8 page it's up to 2.21.21.21. However, none of the 2.x releases list the R720 as a compatible system, and if I try to run the update package it fails saying my system is not compatible.

Is it possible to run the 2.x firmware on an R720, or is 1.66.65 as far as those will ever go?

Thanks,

  Drew

Hi have R720s with 2.21.21.21 so it is compatible :)

How are you trying to update?

I figured it out. I noticed I actually already had a couple systems at 2.10. The problem is the Linux update package (iDRAC-with-Lifecycle-Controller_Firmware_1X82C_LN_2.21.21.21_A00.BIN). The shell script that contains the list of system ids and model names that it's supposed to work with, does not contain the R720. I extracted the payload and was able to update the firmware by hand with a racadm fwupdate command.

Hey Dell if you're listening: fix the list of systemIDs_1 and supportedModels_1 in PIEConfig.sh to include the 12th gen servers if you're going to tell people to use the same update package as the 13th gen.
