Purchased a new XPS laptop last week which came with Windows 8.0. Upon switching it on it asked to upgrade to Windows 8.1 which I did.

Now McAfee will not start with the error message "McAfee has stopped working".

I have searched the McAfee forums and apparently this is known issue and I will need to reinstall the software.

To do I need to link my McAfee installed on the laptop with my online McAfee account by registering online. I can't do this as McAfee won't open.

How can I go about reinstalling McAfee without having to restore the entire operating system?
