SSD addition/install and ensuing disaster

Laptop Dell Vostro 3590

Disc originally installed 1TB HDD

Windows 11

Background

  • Machine became very slow and started hanging

  • Started getting a message that HDD was bad

  • Decided to install SSD

  • Purchased and added a 500GB Crucial NVME M.2 SSD - Model CT500PSSD8

  • Changed the BIOS settings from RAID to AHCI . Includes having to deal with Win11 issues which were resolved by reading up on the subject.

  • SSD is visible/accessible in Windows explorer. Formatted and partitioned.

  • Decided to do a clean install of Win10 on SSD and move everything to SSD by re-installing all apps and copying data to SSD.

Problem

Even though the SSD is listed in the "System Information-> Hardware->Storage->Disks" and is also fully accessible in Win Explorer and laptop boots off the Win 10 install on the SSD , the SSD is not visible in BIOS in the boot sequence options.

Help requested

How can I ensure that the BIOS is acknowledging the presence and availability of the SSD as a boot device so that I can get rid of the legacy HDD and install a 2.5 inch SSD in it's place?

Will appreciate any help to sort the mess. Thanks.

Cheers

Edit:

PS: Have today updated the BIOS to the latest update from Dell. Problem still remains unresolved.

Clone the HDD to an external USB hard drive as an image

    Remove the HDD

    Install SSD.

Image the SSD with the file from the external USB hard drive.

I recommend using Macrium Reflect Free.

Read their tutorials on doing this.
