Activation after hardware changes
Hi. I'm trying to activate Windows for the second time in about 3 months (once when I replaced the motherboard and another time when I did a regular reformat). The first time, I was able to activate after calling the activation assistance number because my CD key was invalid (I used the one on the side of my case). I explained where I got my system and what upgrades I had done. I'd like to activate again, but Microsoft tells me (via the people in India or wherever...) that I need to contact Dell, but my warranty has long expired (dimension 4600 bought off Ebay two years ago refurbished) and to get the support I desire, I need to pay for the Dell-On-Call service. Is there a way to resolve this without needing to pay for the service? Also, about how much does the service cost?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Scott
