I have a Dell Netbook Inspiron 10 with Win XP operating system. The system has crashed and I have lost everything.... Computer will not boot...blue screen of death...blah blah blah... I have accepted that now. So now I want to try and do a full system restore. On the boot up process I see hit F-2 and F-12 I get into the F-2 option but not the F-12 option, which is where the system restore option exists I believe. In browsing the support forums I notice something about using F-11 and tried that as well.
I do have a DVD to connect to the netbook, but I do not have the system CD so I did order that this week but really was hoping to do this from the partition and wanted all the original software/drivers etc... to be loaded painlessly... Also didn't want to wait for a week or two to get the CD.
Any ideas on how I can get to the partition and from there be able to do the full system restore since my F-12 option is not working?
Just because your computer will not boot does not mean you lost everything. If there is data on the disk that you want to retrieve, you can do so (assuming the disk itself is in working order) by connecting it to another computer, browsing it just like you would an external drive, and copying the files to a safe location. You cannot do this with your programs, but you can rescue your personal files this way. Either connect it to another power/data connection in an existing desktop PC or get a USB adapter, which can connect it to ANY PC:
If you do a factory restore, it will wipe out your personal data on the disk. If you want to get it back, NOW is the time - before doing a restore of ANY kind.
