Device Drivers for Inspiron

I have a Dell Inspiron 1200 and a Windows operating system backup CD that I made back in Nov /05.

If I were to do a Format and Reinstall of XP with this, could I use the Dell Dimension 2400 Resource CD to install Drivers on the Inspiron? Or, would I have to go another route?

Thanks!

Download the drivers for your system.

At the bottom of the left column, you will find a link called "Support Tools".  Click on it.

Then click on the "Drivers and Downloads" link.

Enter your service tag number (or select your model system).

That will take you to a list of drivers for your system.

Make sure that you install the device drivers in the correct order. Here are the instructions on what that order is.

    Thanks for reply!

However, I found some info on Dell site that indicates that the System Restore CD that I made ( from hidden System Restore on hard drive) would have all the Device Drivers on it ----- the ones that came installed on the Inspiron 1200 from the factory. Would that be correct or have I got my wires crossed?

I'm not sure what type of "restore" cd you made.

At one time, Dell did not ship the operating system setup CD with the system and if you wanted to have a copy of it, you had to run a program that would give you a backup copy of the operting system installation CD.  Sometimes it was called a restore CD but it was nothing more than the setup CD.  If this is what you have, then the specific drivers for your system will not be on that CD.

Dell has also given users the ability to restore the system back to the exact way it was shipped from the factory.  Now Dell didn't (to the best of my knowledge) supply a program to make a backup of this.  But it is possible if you know what you are doing to get a copy of this.  This is an image file that would be used with Norton Ghost to "restore" to the original setup.

I think you have the former and not the later program.  I make this assumption from your original post when you said:  I have a Dell Inspiron 1200 and a Windows operating system backup CD that I made back in Nov /05.

How did you make this OS backup CD?

It is called: "PC Restore recovery System by Symantec" which is Operating System Backup & Recovery.

I am pretty sure now that I have all the Drivers on that CD. It was a one time thing when I first got the notebook from Dell. I just followed the instructions and I remember it told me something to the effect: "don't screw-up as you only have one chance at this".

Sorry that I used the wrong terminolgy to start off in my first post.

    Thanks for your replies.

    Maybe I still didn't answer your question --- I burned a CD.
