Drivers for Dimension 2400
I had a loss of desk top/tool bar/explorer and have had to reload XP from someone else’s disc as my Dimension 2400 came preloaded. So I don’t have any of the drivers specific to Dell. I cannot get onto the Internet (doing this from another computer) and the Dell driver download site does not offer a package of drivers that can be downloaded and installed. Any ideas how this can be corrected?
- David: On a machine that has internet, go to www.support.dell.com, click on Drivers and Downloads, enter your machine's Service Tag number, Operating system, and click Go. On the next windowyou will see "Find Downloads. Click it and you will see all the drivers you need for your system.Find the one for your modem or ethernet connector, download it to the C: drive, in a new folder called Downloads, and then copy it to a CD. (you will need a CDRW on the machine you are using.)Once you have it copied, put the CD in your crippled machine and install the driver. You will then ba able to go on the net for the rest of the drivers you need.You can find out just which drivers you need by going to Device Manager. Any yellow ? marks indicate a missing driver. Usually, you will need, Ethernet, Audio, Chipset, Video and Modem drivers.Be careful that you choose the correct driver for your machine, i.e. choose the Integrated Audio Driver if you have integrated sound, Integrated Video driver if you have integrated video.The drivers are zipped but XP will unzip them to a default folder and install them to C:\Dell\Drivers.Good Luck.
