Is the AGP440.SYS optional or not?
Dimension 8300
I have a Nvidia Geforce MX 420 w TV video card. I installed the SP2 patch which also suggested an update of my Geforce drivers. However, I did the two updates in two parts: first update to SP2 -- No problems. So next I went back to the Windows update site and updated the drive for the GEforce. Now I got the AGP440 problem. I turned off the AGP440.sys and got the PC back working but it was slow and I could not get any programs to start/initialize the RPC. Finally, I have to reload SP1 back into the machine.
Since my block for SP2 update will end on 4/12 and I would like the latest XP updates, I will again try the update. However, I am more informed about the problems and have did the following:
1. update my machine bios
2. update Geforce driver from Nvidia site
3. created clone/backup of machine
4. will install AGP440 MS patch (KB885894)
However, I have one question
Do I need the AGP440.sys driver to load at boot or can I leave it off?
