question

I just got an E1705. I wouldn't mind using vista with aero as long as the resources used by it don't drain everything else and bring it to a crawl. Someone mentioned about drivers. Will the current configuration I have below work in vista?

Inspiron E1705
2GHz Intel Core Duo 2 Processor
2GB RAM
256 ATI RADEON X1400
160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
WIndows XP Media Center Edition
Lexmark All-in-one X1185
External USB TV tuner
Linksys WRT54GS wireless router
Kodak Easyshare cradle for Z760
A900 PCconnect

As long as vista with aero is running like my XP MCE now (out of the way and not on my mind) I would get it, but if it is noticibly sluggish then I would not.

Thanks,
Nate

I don't know anything about the current availibility of drivers for your components, but those specs will be just fine with Vista. It should run great for you.

Oh, you don't mention what external tuner you have, but I happen to have a Hauppauge WinTV PVR-USB2 and I connected it to a Vista desktop and Vista loaded drivers for it. No sweat. I use it with SageTV, which also works fine under Vista.

I do not know what usb tuner comes with the system. Is there a way to tell? I think it is part number 320-4257. All I can find on it is usb tv tuner tvt2.

You have more than resources to run Vista.  I have the same system on its way to me (IF IT WILL EVER GET TO MY APO ADDRESS!!!!!) except I opted for the nVidia card.
I already have an external USB tuner from Hauppauge.
