Why are you running an XP utility file on Vista? It is just left over from your previous operating system. Of course it found "problems" since it doesn't recognize the OS.

Can't be a leftover file since vista is the only operateing system ever installed. sfc/scannow is the same on XP as on Vista, on vista you must run it as Admin. to get it to work, and it did work properly.

After running sfc / scannow it refers me to a cbs.log.  Once I locate the file and try to open it I get an "Access Denied" box.  I am the administrator, so does anyone know of this file and how to access the contents.  It is supposed to list the problems found but not corrected.

Open Wordpad using the Run As Administrator option.

 

Click File>Open

 

Navigate to the folder and then open the cbs.log file.

 

The other option would be to generate a detailed file showing the exact errors.

 

There's an easy way to do this.

 

Open Notepad.

 

Insert the following:

 

findstr /C:"[SR] Cannot repair member file" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

 

Save that on your desktop as SFCDetails Command.cmd

 

Run that command and it will strip down that log file just to the parts that detail the files that SFC couldn't fix.
