There are 4 users, but I have plenty of memory.

This is the only article I could find on the subject, sort of. It sound like if you have several users logged and possibly running programs that it will slow down XP. The more logged on the slower. You might check in "services" and make sure "fast user switching" is set to "automatic" and is started. Other than that you might try running "spybot to check for malware and spyware problems. Microsoft anti-spyware is also a free product that works well. No 1 product detects all problems, use at least 3.

If you use Norton anti-virus I recommend you do not use Micrsoft anti spyware (or use with caution when removing spyware it has found) until this problem is fixed, read this link
