Finally uninstalled Norton Internet Security 2007, what a mess. Tried to reinstall McAfee but won't complete. Keep getting startup error messages that application resources could not be loaded successfully. Then I get two errors that syspools.exe and ppl.exe have experineced problems.
Any suggestions? I even tried to restore to a previous date but that fails also.
A quick google suggests that syspools.exe is malware.

So you may need to clean that up before installing mcafee.
Suggest you also run (free) Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy to make sure nothing ele is lurking inside.
ppl.exe seems to be Pocket Programming Language, so you may need to disable, uninstall or reinstall it, assuming you have it.
Thanks for your help but tried your advice with no success. Downloaded and ran Spybot and it didn't see the syspools.exe file. By the way, there are several Spybot like software packages so i was extra careful to use the one you recommended. Also tried a commercial for-sale syspools.exe software but that didn't work either. Unistalled McAfee and was successful in reinstalling. McAfee recognizes the syspool.exe and ppl.exe files but can't eliminate them. Not sure where to go from here, no response from MS chat and you're the only Dell reply.
If you google syspools.exe I think you'll find links to (free) removal tools.
ppl.exe may be legit, but google to see if there's a removal tool. Also look in Add/Remove Programs control panel to see if there's a way to uninstall it, orr just search for that file on your HD and delete it.
You could also go to Dell's HiJackThis forum for a link to free HiJackThis. Run HJT and post the entire log on that forum for one of the experts to review and help you remove malware. Be sure to read all FAQs at the top of that forum before running HJT and only accept advice from one of the recognized experts over there.
