usbscan.sys disabled

Somehow My Hp6210 printer stopped working.  I went to reinstall and keep geeting usbscan.sys not found.  I have this in my system at windows/system32/drivers.  I have WinXP Manager that says the usb scanner driver is in stopped mode.  I can't figure out how to get it started back up.  Any help would be appreciated

    Completely uninstall the HP software, physically disconnect the unit from the PC, restart Windows (Important do not skip the restart) and then do a new install and ONLY connect the device to the PC when the install program tells you.
