Vista Internet Explorer 7 Java Error Message

Ever since I started using a new Dell Vista machine about a week ago, I've received the following error message upon closing the Dell-installed Internet Explorer 7:  "Java (TM) platform SE binary has stopped working . . ."  Can anyone explain what's causing this and how I fix it?

Usually but not always I also receive the following error message:

"An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Line 12

Character 1

Error Automation server can't create object.

Code 0

URL file:///C:/Program%20Files/Verizon/OCB/48f0f770-6b1e-493d-9bfc-32ff32a6ee86/Start.htm?VendorID=Verizon,isHidden=true,ConnectivityRequired=true,flowId=AlertWebFlow,FlowParams=

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page."

Are these 2 messages related?  Can someone tell me how to resolve both?

Definitely get the latest version of Java. Also, remove the Virtual Machine. It shouldn't be needed with Java's latest update. You can always reinstall if necessary.
