Re-register the Windows Update DLL with the commands below

Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
    regsvr32 wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
    regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
    regsvr32 wucltui.dll
    regsvr32 wups.dll
    regsvr32 wups2.dll
    regsvr32 wuweb.dll

PudgyOne; Your information is interesting. My updates work ok, but it takes 7 minutes to scan before I get my update lists in Express or Custom which everone I click on. Than takes 2 minutes to initialize before it downloads to my computer. Do you think your suggestion would help this situation? Thanks

Just thinking, maybe your computer is infected. Did you run a full virus scan? What virus protection are you using?

Here are my suggestions. Download these and install them. Restart the computer in the Safe Mode(F8) and run full scans. Remove everything they find. Your computer will be cleaned. Let me know how you make out. I have to leave for work. Will check back at 4:00AM

Have a good virus protection. If you don't have one, I suggest
Avast 4 Home FREE. Register, It's FREE. They give you a registration key and it's good for 10 months. Then re-register and it good again for another 10 months. It's a cycle, but always FREE.

    Spyware Removal tools

    C W Shredder
    Spybot Search & Destroy
AVG Anti-Spyware - download the FREE version
    Spyware Blaster
    Hosts File

    Firewall

Zone Alarm - just use the FREE firewall. Don't use the browser helper or Suite.

PudgyOne: I'm a winter visiter in AZ. I just tore my computer down that I was having trouble with. My signature tells my Virus protection. I do scan my computer regularly for spyware and Viruses. I do use most of those that you suggested. I also use "SuperAntiSpyware", which I like, and run the "Spyware" program on my computer. I have never found any serious infection. I will be headed home in a couple of weeks and will be setting my Dell back up in Iowa. I'm now using A Gateway 510 XP OS, in my Az Mobile Home. I'm using the free version of AVG on this computer.  This one works fine. The problem started when I updated to Microsoft Updates. I will get back with you when get back on line. Thanks

I was reading you post from here. It states that you were having trouble with updating Windows, after a spyware infection.

What version of Windows do you have and is it a full version or and upgrade from another operation system?

I read Windows 98, I read Windows XP and it seems like you may have had Windows 98 and upgraded it to Windows XP, correct? If so, was it an upgraded version or a new full version of XP?

Also need to know what disks you have.

If you have a full version of XP, I'd consider using WinDriversBackup to backup my drivers. I would also make backup copies of my files, folders and programs that you can't afford to lose. My personal opinion is I would go with a clean format and install, if you have the full version. Remember you can always download AVG FREE again.

But if you don't want to do a clean install, you can always try a Windows repair.

Insert the Windows disk and restart the computer.

press any key to boot from disk.

    Choose install

    do the agreement

choose repair and let it do it's thing until it reboots on it's own and brings up the Welcome Screen. A repair on a Dell machine, for me, I didn't lose any files or folders. It will put the computer back to the way when you purchased it. Remember to get the Windows Updates. Choose Custom and take everything there.

I would really consider a clean install since there was an infection that could play havoc at a later date, since you don't know what damage it did.

PudgyOne; I miss informed you. My Dell computer isn't infected. I mean't the problem was as stated on the update problem. The dell computer works great, I have all the updated's installed it just takes along time to access the updates. I have it set on automatic update. I just like to observe the updates from time to time. My Dell XP is not an upgrade. It is genuine XP OS 310. I bought it new from Dell appx. 3 years ago. I did have an Dell w98 that has been junked. I need to remove the profile in W98. Thanks

I did a search on PCShieldPro07 and found your other problem and it had trouble with updates, also. I was wondering what PCShielsPro07 was. I did some research and it looks like it may have some type of spyware in it.

I have all of the updates, so I don't see any of them. I have it set to automatically download and install. I used to manually install them but found that automatic is just as good. I have a Dell Inspiron B130 and when I used Super Anti-spyware, I had trouble staying connected.

So tell more about your symptons error messages, etc. Maybe there is a cure.
