WD19 Dock really loud fan
I've spotted a few threads on this issue, but cannot see if there's a fix or whether I have a defective unit. Every few minutes, the fan on the WD19 dock ramps up to full, it's so loud (perhaps only slightly quieter than a hairdryer).
I have the latest firmware, and that didn't make a difference. It's either full blast, or silent nothing in-between.
For such an expensive device it's disappointing that it does this. Any help gratefully received by my ears.

I have the same issue with my WD19TB I bought. The fan seems to only be at 0 or 100 and there's no ramping in between. It's really loud and really really annoying. Especially considering how expensive these are.

I've had this one about two weeks and it's ridiculous. The thing isn't warm, it's not warm in the environment around it, and it cycles up and down all day. According to my coworker, it even does it when I'm not at my desk and the monitors are asleep. It's terrible.

I have the same issue. I fixed it for a while by keeping the regular power supply plugged into the computer. Since upgrading the firmware a week or so ago, it's back but much worse. Runs like a hair dryer for up to 10 mins then switches off. I have unplugged everything from the dock except the monitor (via display port) and of course it has it's power supply and is plugged in to the computer. The regular power supply is also still plugged into the computer. Even does is at night when the computer is asleep and the monitor is in power save. Is it possible to roll back the last firmware update?
I have same issue, my dock is 4 months old, and started this behavior just recently, I think it had some sw/fw updates and got this problem after that. I have since upgraded absolutely everything on my laptop and dock, still same issue. Considering price of laptop and dock I am very disappointed. precision 5570 and dell thunderbolt dock wd19tbs.
Like others state, noisy when idle, no reason to be heated, no throttling of fan just max or no.
I want a fix for this

Hey,
sorry to hear that. But I can say my WD19 had the same behaviour. I returned it. Now I have a used WD15 from ebay with 180w charger to power my xps 9500. Its absolute quite and works perfect. get this one!
