Hello all,
Been looking around to get details of the thickness of the thermal pads used in the Alienware 13 R2 (2016) I don't see these sorts of details in any of the manuals available. Is there a way to find out this information, without opening it and trying to measure 6 year old pads.

Hi Crev W olf the original 13 R2 cooling pads are installed on the mating surface of the CPU and GPU cooling blocks. When reinstalling the cooling system, the pads are removed and replaced with thermal paste, to reduce the CPU and GPU temperatures. Did not find a short video, so just watch the early portion on this video starting at about 6:10 minutes.

I do have paste on the way for the processor units, I was just worried about the parts around the processor. He cleans part of one at 7:12 In that video they are black and look thin. I don't know what the components are called cache or ram I guess. They do have pads over them, and in the end that guy just uses the old ones. I'm just wanting to be prepared and kinda just want to give it the extra attention. I looked in the service manual where it describes how to take the 13R2 apart and remove heat sinks, but they never have these sorts of details in there.

Ahh all right, sorry about that. I didn't mean to waste anyone's time with a nonsense post! I was sure there would be thermal pads between the heatsink and the memory chips, VRM, chipsets or whatever they are. My mistake. I am sorry for your trouble but I do appreciate it!

Hi Crev W olf, the thermal pads are usually stuck to the cooling system. So the 7:12 activity was just cleaning away small black debris. I watched the video again and still saw removal of debris. I slowed the video speed down, and still saw removal of debris. I guess that you see, what you want to see, in these videos.

There were, in fact, pads on the surrounding chips. This was the thickness I was trying to determine, but didn't word it properly. In case it helps anyone in the future: the pads from factory were definitely thicker 0.5mm, but looked a little thinner than 1mm.
I'm not sure why such specs are not more readily available, its a common question for any laptop.

The phot missing the pads is a slightly different motherboard and GPU. But the idea is the same. The red circles indicate the GPU related components and the Yellow is related to the CPU. Or at least the heat sink is more directly piped to that side of the assembly.
