Alienware Area-51m R2 Windows 11 Purchased new just over 5 years ago
Recently when running diagnostics on my laptop I received an Error Code: 2000-0511 with a message "The (VGA) fan failed to respond correctly".
Can anyone tell me what this error code means ? Plus any possible steps I need to take to see if this is an actual hardware problem, or if it is a software type problem ? If it is something that will need to be replaced, where can I find the correct replacement part ?
That is what I was thinking as well. Sorta like "as long as you have the hood up" type thing :) I have the fans on order and they should be here shortly !
@CherylM88 I don't have a video, but you can view the service manual with removal steps here.
Note that there is a reverse sequential order and the assembly should have captive screws, meaning they will get loose but not fully come out.
Steps
Disconnect the fan cables from the system board.
Remove the two screws (M2.5x5) that secure the heat-sink assembly to the palm-rest assembly.
In the reverse sequential order (8>7>6>5>4>3>2>1), loosen the eight captive screws that secure the heat-sink assembly to the system board and palm-rest assembly.
Lift the heat-sink assembly off the system board.

The fan needs to be replaced (and while you're in there, you may also want to replace the CPU fan as well).
Amazon and others have them.
