Physically Migrating
Hey all. We're thinking of migrating our current farm of about 200tb of compellent storage over to a new datacenter. We're in the preliminary discussions of how this could logistically work. Has anyone gone through this process?
We're currently thinking about the possibility to either take one of our SC8000 and move it over and slowly start to move hard drive bays over. Or maybe get some controllers from Dell on loan for the migration.
Any thoughts?

We have moved our Compellent SANs a total of 3 times for power renovations, new data center build, and DR facility. We have 3 SANs so we have been able to evacuate one at a time using live volume or vSphere storage DRS with no impact to our customers. If you only have 1 SAN and you have enough free space to evacuate a few trays at a time you may be able to setup new controllers and slowly move trays and workloads to the new location. The RAID rebalancing can take a long time but the actual hardware moves go really quick. With multiple SANs I find it easiest to wipe the configuration from a SAN when moving so that I don't have to worry about the cabling being identical to the previous location. Good luck!
