Optiplex GX150 Info
hello Dell
I have a DELL OptiPlex GX150
with a Pentuim 3 933 Mhz (133)mhz
with 2 SD-RAM 256Mb (133)Mhz
with 20 Gb Harddrive Maxtor
with 64 Mb Ati Radeon
What is the Maxumm:

is their away I can get the Manuals for Dell>Optiplex>GX150

512MB is the maximum memory. This has to be low density memory, which isn't hard to find, but a lot of memory on the market is high density which won't work.
With an updated bios there's currently no limit on the drive size.
As for video, the system has an AGP slot, but the card you can upgrade to depends on the chassis size. The small form factor (uses a laptop style cdrom) has a 100 Watt powersupply, which means it can only support very low power videocards and they have to be half-height. The desktop chassis has a 110W PSU, which isn't much better (and again half-height). The tower chassis has a 200Watt PSU, and can support full height videocards. The 200 Watt does still mean you probably shouldn't try the latest videocards, as they prefer 300W or more powersupplies, but it does give quite a bit more choice. Tho not Dell certified, an AGP version of a 6200 or 6600 or maybe an ATI X300/X600 would probably be the top of what you can 'safely' try.

Dear Dev Mgr,
I saw your comment of " With an updated bios there's currently no limit on the drive size."
This interests me in that I am trying to install a WD800BB 80 gig HDD into a GX150. As a primary HDD on the second IDE port it is detected and accessible. But as the primary drive on the first IDE port it is "unknown" and the CD ROM drive also went "unkown".
Originally I was using BIOS A06 but have upgraded to A11 which believe is the latest. I still have the same situation except that the CD ROM is now detected.
Would you have any suggestions that may help me.

Some Versions of the motherboard need a LIN LIN or Powerleap adaptor. Look at this article. Its talking about a GX110 but the principle is the same. Also you need to update the bios if yours is A01.
The Mid life Kicker version of the board I believe has the B2 stepping of the INTEL 815 chipset.
You could try downloading a utiliy like the chipset ID utility to figure this out. I think you need version 2.91 of the utility to read which version of the chip. OR open the cover and Read the "S" spec on the chip which will tell you if you need a LIN LIN or other adaptor OR not. SL5NQ and SN5NR are B0 stepping.
