Do I need displayLink?

I am using only one monitor on my Inspiron 15 laptop. It is attached via HDMI.   I do have a dock but am not using any other monitors.

Task Manager tells me that Display Link takes a lot of memory (Actually it is Windows Driver Foundation, which I believe is invoked by Display Link) and seems to be affecting performance. Can I uninstall it? Disable the service? Get rid of it somehow or will that cause a problem?

You have not mentioned which model and which dock

But but by reading your post its clear that your dock is not thunderbolt.

Type C docks require display link to function and show monitor

Some dell docks use Display link for ethernet too

tell us more about the dock and devices connected to it.

    Inspiron 15 5510/5518

    Service Tag:

    Dell USB3.0 dock D3100

Using Wi-Fi, not ethernet. No other devices except USB thumb drives.

    Thanks
