Laptop speaker unclear sound

Hi Sourav,

Please connect the external speakers or headphones and check if the sound is coming clear from the external device. You may uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers. Please follow the steps below:

• Press ‘Windows’ key + R on ‘Desktop’ screen
• Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run box and press ‘Enter’
• Click > sign next to ‘Sound, video and game controllers’
• Right click each entry listed under ‘Sound, video and game controllers’ and click on ‘Uninstall’
• Click ‘Yes’ on the security warning

I am again getting distorted sound from my laptop :( ... Same as I was getting at the first time.

Hello Sourav. Earlier Amogh G asked you to connect headphones or external speakers and then listen for the distortion. You never replied to that. Please do so now. Is the audio unclear in both the speakers and the headphones, or only through the built-in speakers?

Another thing you could try is to install the native Windows audio driver. To do that, remove the IDT audio driver in Start>Control Panel>Uninstall a Program. Find the IDT audio driver then right click on it and uninstall it. When you reboot the computer Windows will install its native audio driver. Check that it is installed by going to the Sounds properties. If it says "High Definition Audio Device" on any of the tabs then it is the native driver. If it says "IDT High Definition Audio Codec" then it is still an IDT driver, so repeat the procedure. (Windows will keep installing IDT drivers until all that have been downloaded are removed.)

After installing the native driver check the audio quality.

I could not find any IDT audio driver in my installed programs. Found "Advance Audio FX Engine", is this the audio driver?

As we have restored the system to an earlier date, I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers again as described above.

No. It seems that the IDT driver is not on your system so download it again from the link that Amogh G provided or re-use the previous download if you still have it. If the audio sound through the speakers is still poor with both the IDT driver and the Windows native driver then there might be something wrong with your speakers.

The way to tell which driver you have is to open the Sound properties -- any tab. If you see the words "IDT High Definition Audio Codec" then you are using an IDT audio driver. The picture below is just an example -- it is not from a Studio 1558.

But if you see the words "High Definition Audio Device" on the tabs then the Windows native driver is installed.

Either driver should produce good sound. The mic jack usually works better with the IDT driver than with the native driver. The purpose of testing the audio with both drivers is to help rule out a driver problem. If the drivers are not causing the problem then it is more likely that there is a hardware problem causing the poor sound.

i did the everything u people said but audio is still noisy and unclear on my laptop.........i think it changed due to windows update

I can't think of a way an update would affect the quality of the sound that goes to the speakers but not the audio that goes through the headphone port. If you still have your original hard drive and if the utility partition is still on it you can run Dell 32 bit Diagnostics audio tests. If you are able to run the tests then listen to the quality of the sound. this particular test is not performed within windows and is not affected by it in any way. if the audio is unclear during the tests then you have hardware failure. If the audio is clear during the tests then there is a software issue.

i changed my hard drive long before.......and my os too i am using win 8 64 bit.............couple of days b4 it asked for a restart to complete win8 update after that only i am getting this problem
