Lagging driver updates

I have a question specific to how Dell provides driver updates, specifically for the Latitude models. I work with many 54xx and 74xx models. When I perform general service on these devices, one of the steps I typically run Dell Command | Update to ensure all of the devices are up-to-date.

Recently I have found that some updated drivers are not available through Dell Command | Update, but the appear on the Dell.com/support page. I've also found that the driver versions offered through Dell.com/support or Dell Command | Update are not the most up-to-date drivers available from the hardware adapter manufacturer.

Specifically, we can look at the Intel 9560 Wi-Fi UWD Driver available for the Latitude 5400. Dell.com/support shows the driver was updated on 10 Sep 2021. It didn't show up as an installable update in Dell Command | Update until 1 Nov 2021. According to Intel's site, this driver is three months old, and has had two revisions. Prior to this update, the driver hadn't been updated since 22 Mar 2021 and was four revisions behind.

I'm just looking to gain some insight on the process in which Dell releases drivers for their hardware.  I recognize that hardware manufacturers are constantly updating drivers and that there will be a delay between the manufacturers release and when Dell provides it for their users. Is there a reason why Dell Command | Update would be two months behind on providing the update? Should I instead be looking beyond Dell for driver updates and be updating based on the releases from the hardware manufacturer? Should I be concerned that Dell may be modifying the drivers before they release them for their devices?

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

Thank you for reaching out but my question was more a general question, not specific to an individual computer.
