Alienware 13 USB mic buzz/hum

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help. I have a high quality USB microphone that I use on my desktop (works perfectly) that I'm trying to use on my new Alienware 13 laptop, but I'm getting a terrible buzzing sound on my recordings, no matter what USB port I plug the mic into. I've tried disconnecting the power cable, but it doesn't make any difference.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Have you tested the microphone in another computer?

Try to uninstall and reinstall the Audio driver, as well update the BIOS to the latest version you find in the Dell support website

Let me know how it goes.

    Hi there,

thanks for the advice. I've tried that, and unfortunately it made no difference.

Had a Dell technician come out and change the battery and motherboard today. I'm sorry to say that unfortunately the problem is still occurring. I do not have another USB headset to test this on, but I know this headset works perfectly on other systems. And to be clear, the buzzing almost completely (though not totally) stops if I grasp the computer on either side of the front. This indicates to me the issue is definitely not with the headset.

The only way to make sure is not compatibility issue is if you test the system with a different headset otherwise we can send the system to our repair facilities but I’m not quite sure if they will be able to replicate the problem.

It's a Gembird 5.1 Channel High Sound Quality usb Headset With Microphone. Can't tell you a model number as it's not on the headset itself. Not a very well known brand, I admit, but I have tried about a dozen mics over the past year and this is by far the best. At least it is on my desktop, but not on my laptop.

I've done some testing and the problem is 90% consistent - for some reason I can't identify the buzzing vanished for a few moments this morning, and then appeared again during a recording. Ordinarily to get the buzzing to almost go away I have to grab the bottom of the case, but this time I had made no contact with the computer during that time, so I've no idea what changed. Interestingly enough, I have also discovered that the buzzing is much worse when the power is UNPLUGGED. When running on battery it is much, much worse. Very odd!

in the 3 cases as i am reading in the brand page, those mics does not support windows 7 or 8. but i can help you if you say me which is yours

i can teach you how to install the driver in combatibility mode with older versions of windows
