BIOS error...need help..

I keep getting this error message about once a day now it seems. Happens a lot when I am running certain programs for some reason but it looks like a BIOS problem.

Here is the error briefly described:

Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

then it says disable bioa memory options such as caching or shadowing. (what will this do?? and how do you do it??)

Then it says this at the bottom after a bunch of jibber jabber

***STOP: 0X000000D1(0X55EAACCE, 0X00000002, 0X00000000, 0XF8631C3E)
*** cdr4_xp.sys - address F8631C3E base at F8626000, Datestamp 3b8ed0a5

I hope this helps determine my problem...took me forever to write it down. It is really starting to make me mad too. How can I fix this?? Any help would be appreciated. This happens a lot when dealing with ZIP and RAR files, but also happens out of the blue sometimes such as when I was moving things from one HD to the other last night. Thanks for your help.

If you have a Sony CDROM or CDRW, that could be the problem."cdr4_xp.sys" refers to a Sony CD device driver. I don't know if that is a native XP driver or an add-in.

I have experienced a somewhat similar problem. Except for a different header of the error.

    rdr_file_system

     ***STOP: 0X00000027

and it referred to  *** cdr4_xp.sys  aswell.

I was able to acces windowsxp in safe mode (pressing esc to bypass loading d3434bus.sys(??))

Since i've read elsewheres that there might be a conflict with incd from Roxio and my other burning program Nero, I deinstalled nero and hoped for the best after a reboot. However, Windows was unable to load; not even in safe mode. It even got worse. Trying to reboot from xp cdrom for a repair install just got me stuck  with a black screen and a blinking prompt.

Does anyone have clue what might help me to get xp running again.

Or might my harddisk be fried?

The suggestion to turn off BIOS cache is just a stab in the dark by the folks who wrote that error message. The error says that CDR4_XP.SYS tried to access memory that it didn't own (in this case, address 55eaacce). CDR4_XP.SYS is Roxio's driver. Contact Roxio's tech support, and give them the STOP code and the address info. That will point them to the specific line in their source code that failed, and they should be able to fix it.

In the meantime, you might be able to keep the error from happening if you turn off the AUTO PLAY feature of your CD. That feature polls the CD periodically to see if you inserted a CD. I'm just guessing, but disabling that may stop your CD driver from running when you're not using it.

I use the Microsoft Powertoys TWEAKUI program to disable auto-play. I think you can still turn it off globally by running REGEDIT, finding HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom and changing the Autorun property from a 1 to a 0.

In the mean time ? Windows isn't operating anymore. As i mentioned in my post: I dont even manage to boot from cdrom!!

I was trying to reinstall windows but nowthe problem seems worse. Might it be a harddisk failure or...

    anyone has a suggestion?

Sorry, KeyZer - I wasn't replying to you, I was replying to the original post. The error was popping up occasionally, and I suggested a call to Roxio's tech support to get a fixed driver - and in the meantime, turn off autoplay.

Your situation isn't the same, so piggybacking on someone else's thread means you aren't going to get the right answer. However, if your error is with the Roxio driver, contact them, because no one else can fix their driver!
