If your running Vista you can use F8 instead of Ctrl+F11 then look for "Repair My Computer", select that option then "Next".. The next screen should give you the option "Dell Factory Image Restore", then click Next.

 

Now,  Click to select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition check box. Click "Next" then "Finish".  This should restore your computer to factory defaults.

i do believe at the time the 600's first came out that if you received a os reinstall cd with your system it didnt come with the pc restore partition loaded on the hard drive .which in turn means that you have to do a reinstall from the cd it has no built in restore options. i believe it had something to do with a snag with a microsoft licensing agreement saying you can have only one or the other, someone please correct me if im wrong but i believe thats how it was.

Yes i can confirm. You drop the os reinstall cd in and restart your computer. press a key when it asks to boot from cd. then follow on screen directions.

Warning  this will wipe everything on the os partition... BACKUP before you do this.

have you ever done anything to the hd?? if you made any changes to partions or the mbr you will no longer have any access to the Factory restore partition..
