Go to SolutionInternet explorer security vulnerability
I haven't connected my new Inspiron 2020 (Windows 7) to the Internet yet. I bought it about ten days ago. The security vulnerability affects versions 6 through 11. Which version of Internet Explorer is already on my new computer?
Should I wait for the Internet Explorer vulnerability to be fixed before I attempt an Internet connection? Or is it safe for me to proceed with connecting to the Internet with IE and switch to Firefox as soon as possible?

I assume that IE is the only browser that is already loaded onto the computer, am I right? And I assume one of the first steps will be downloading all the Windows updates that have been issued since the system was installed.
I have been using Firefox on my older existing computer and it is my preferred browser.
I doubt that Firefox is loaded onto my new computer.
I know to use Limited User Accounts whenever possible and to not click on links in emails, etc. I have 12 years experience using my home computer and have learned about viruses the hard way! I would just like to be safe rather than sorry.
Thank you for your help!

You probably have either IE10 or IE11 with Win 7. Unless you're in the EU, that's the only browser Dell would pre-install
Read this for some suggestions to block the security hole until MS gets around to fixing it.
The simplest thing might be to disable the Flash plug-in in IE (Tools>Manage Add-ons) if you want to get started downloading your Windows updates. Keep in mind that you won't be able to watch any cute cat videos and some sites might not work correctly or at all with Flash disabled, but at least you'll be safe enough until you do the Windows updates and get FF downloaded and installed.
