Major Problems?

Okay, where to begin. First of all, everytime I turn my pc on, I get a popup message in DOS format that says something about my virus software will not work. I press the space bar to continue, it loads windows, and then I get another pop up box that says an EXE file will not run because of lack of memory. Each time, the EXE file listed is different. I click OK, and continue on. When I check my memory, it says that I have 60% free.. so I don't get it.

My Norton's Antivirus program will not run at all. As a matter of fact, it's not even showing at the bottom of my screen anymore.. where the time shows.. I think that's the task bar?

Just two days ago, I had to go in and reconfigure my Outlook Express settings because somehow Norton's Antivirus had been written in as my POP server. Weird. But I got this corrected easily.

I cannot run scandisk at all. It will run and run, and then finally display a message stating that Scandisk has had to restart 10 times because some other program is running on the same drive. No, I have no other programs running. I'm not a complete idiot, lol!!

Often, when I reboot.. my pc will restart in Safe Mode. And too, when I try to view webpages, it just shows up in all that garbled computer language.

Can anyone help me?? I think maybe I have a virus, but I can't run my virus software. I even tried downloading Norton's 2002... but even it won't run. It said something about a DLL file being missing. Blahh!!

I've tried restoring my system to a past date.. and this doesn't help either. I have all the original disks for my computer. Is there anyway that I can TOTALLY restore my whole system? And would this even help?? I figured that if I could, then I could run the virus program, and see if I have a virus.

Help?? Anyone??

Download and run the removal tool from Norton. Read the instructions carefully.

You appear to have all of the symptoms of a worm/virus, and it is likely causing most, if not all, of your problems. See the following:

    It's called WORM.KLEZ.E

Anyone know what I should do now?? This is the reason behind all my problems??

the system restore has to work. you have to restore it to a date before all the problems started though. I used it like 3 times already. worked every time.

set the system restore space on max almost, so you get more restore points. where was your setting at?

The KLEZ virus, from your symptoms, may be one of those virii that block access to the antivirus sites, especially Norton. If you cannot get to the Symantec site on the infected machine try and download the removal tool using another machine and copy it to diskette. Run the removal tool from the diskette.

Alright please visit these sights for unistalling Norton and installing it back in. Be very careful though with the system registry.

Please review this Dell Knowledge Base Document:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This should get you back in Norton. To fix your Safe Mode problem go to
*Start *Run *Type in 'msconfig' *Click Advanced *Make sure Enable Startup menu is unchecked. Everything else should be too..Also when you are out of Advanced and in the General tab make sure the dot is by Normal Startup. Do this after Norton is fixed. You should edit your registy (which is mentioned in one of those article, that is the key one to fix your problem) in Safe Mode. Thanks for your inquery. -Greg

    Okie Dokie!

I finally got the worm removed from my system.

Norton's is installed, but I think I'm just going to get the newer version tomorrow.. and update it.

Thanks guys, for the help. Everything is running smooth now. No more .exe messages at startup, and scandisk runs properly.

That sight housecall.antivirus.com was a lifesaver! My sister-in-law has the same problems now, so I sent her there.

    Anywho.. thanks again!!
