questions about Celeron processor
I would like to get a Dimension 2400 with Celeron processor. I was wondering if later, after I get more money, can I just buy a Pentium 4 CPU and take out the Celeron and put in the P4? Or do I have to get different parts? And when it says under minimum requirements for games: Pentium II 500Mhz, or something like that, would a 2.4 Gigahertz CPU work for the game?
Thanks.

I meant would the games work with a 2.4ghz Celeron processor until I save up enough to get a P4?

Yes, they would work. The 2.4g Celeron processor is faster than a Pentium II 500Mhz.

The graphics card and RAM requirements are even more important than the processor speeds. Your well above the processor requirements, but aren't you working with intel extreme graphics and NOT a real graphics card? That may be a big issue if you run heavy graphics games. However, without an AGP slot in the 2400 you would need a PCI graphics card.
Hope this helps some.

No AGP slot... ouch! I'd save up your money and get a machine that has an AGP slot rather than integrated graphics. You will not have fun at all with integrated graphics if you play almost any of the newer games. Integrated graphics shares memory with your main system and that gets you two ways. You don't have very much memory for the graphics card and on top of that, it's taking that memory from your system so your system doesn't have as much memory either. You can get a Dimension 4600 pretty cheap these days and those come with an AGP slot and Pentium 4 processors.

Yes, you should be able to upgrade the processor to a P4 without without any additional parts, see the following specifications for the D/2400
http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/dim2400/en/sm_en/specs.htm
The P4-2.4g CPU will be more that adequate for any game that has a P2 500MHz minimum requirement, providing the game meets the operating system's compatibility
