Recording from the web
Since purchase of a Dell Vostro with AUDIO : SOUNDBLASTER X-FI XTREME MUSIC C sound card I have been trying to record audio material from the web. I could do this on my old machine with XP but there seems to be nothing I can do to get the machine to "hear" the sound although it is coming through loud and clear.
I use Magic Audio cleaning lab 12 delux to record. Any body have any idea how to overcome this problem

Go to your mixer settings and select "What-You-Hear" as the sound source.1245

Most new systems do not have that function (and it's not just Dell's - I installed a HP Desktop for a client about two weeks ago and the HP didn't have that function either).

But surely, with a Soundblaster sound-card, it has to be available, no matter what it is called and no matter what the system....no?

Thank you fireberd and arnieday for your advice so far. I had been to Control Panel & Sounds where all devices are shown and enabled & sadly all relate to mikes or digital line in & I have tried all. There is no "What you hear" option. I guess I shall have to stick to a loop between the headphone and mike sockets but the quality is not as good.1245

Arnie, according to posts on here and the XPS Desktop forum section, the Dell OEM supplied SoundBlaster Xfi does not have all the functions that the Retail board has (I don't know if it's software or hardware related).

Jack, that is the same card I have (OEM) and it does have that feature. My XPS 410 dates back to September
2007. But you have to go to soundcard properties and check that box.

The procedure that I posted in reference to going to the Control Panel/Sounds and RIGHT clicking, etc, I got from a post on the XPS Desktop section.
I don't have that card so all I can do is go by the posts on here.

When you click on the speaker icon and then options>properties> recording, what boxes do you have to choose from?

If I go Control Panel - Sound -Recording I get4 options which are
1 Microphone - Creative SB XFi
2 Microphone FP -Creative SB XFi
3 Digital _In Creative SB XFi
4 Microphone - Logitech Mic(Pro 5000)
All are shown as working

There is one thing to try, suggested by another forum user:
"Went into Control Panel's "Sound" then "Recording" Right hand click and check "Show Disabled Devices" Then click properties and under Device Usage click "Use this device""
