I am having a problem with my windows installer on a dell deminsion 8400,  I did find some help yesterday and check out the help on microsoft knowledge base, article 893803, it ref how to install windows installer 3.1 v2.....I have done this know three times and it still does not work.  I have tried to install other programs and all I get is an error saying it can not start the installer or the installer is having a problem accessing.  I need some help....

 

Do I need to intall windows XP over the existing XP?

 

Do I need to reformat the drive and then reinstall?

 

I have had more problems with this Dell than any other computer that I have owned.  I was a Gateway customer but I thought I would try out a Dell, that was my first mistake.

 

But since I do have a dell I need help in getting things back to working status....Thanks to anyone who can help....
