First of all turn off your Cap Lock setting.  Writing in all capitol letters in a forum environment is consider shouting.  Besides postings are easier to read when it is not all capitol letters.... at least for me.

As for PC Restore (CTRL+F11), the 2300 model was produced longer before Dell introduced that utility so your system will not have it.

As for the hal.dll problem, you will need a Windows XP CD in order to correct the problem.  Any Windows CD should work and it doesn't necessarily have to be from Dell.   Click here for a Dell Knowledge Base article on how to resolve the problem.  If that article doesn't resolve the problem then I would suggest posting in the Software - Windows XP forum since the problem is related to the operating system.  You can click here for a direct link to that forum.

For future reference you can access all the printed documentation that originally came with the system on-line.  Click here for the on-line version of your model's Service Manual.  The Service Manual is also available for download in .PDF format using the Documentation link.

In addition, you can download all the drivers and the diagnostic utility that would have orginally came on a CD with the system.  Click here for all the available downloads for the 2300 model and Windows XP from the Dell File Library.
