Ambiguous Internet

Can anyone tell me why my internet explorer ignores me when I connect my Ethernet cable to my laptop? It works OK while I'm connected to the net using my Wi-Fi, but when I connect my Ethernet cable (which runs at almost twice the speed), it recognizes the connection...but refuses to connect to the internet. It claims there is no internet connection. I can unplug the Ethernet cable, it switches back to the Wi-Fi connect...then connects to the web without a problem. I'm confused:emotion-18:

    Hello,

Please try the steps mentioned in the article on Wired Internet Connection for the Home for Windows 7 by Dell Support.  I would also request you to help me with the system model so that I can help you updating the correct drivers.

However, you may install the drivers from Dell Drivers and Downloads. Please enter the system service tag, choose the Operating System and download the Ethernet drivers for the system.

Please try the steps and write back with results.

    Hello,

Please click here to get the latest driver for  Broadcom 570x Gigabit Integrated Controller. Check if you are able to download and install the file.

Kindly write back for further queries.

Thank you Allan D for your answer, but I've hit another snag. When I try to download the R107518.exe file...Internet Explorer gets a meg into the download and stops...it says the server 'reset' itself and stops the download. I have a Latitude D600 Windows XP...it is trying to update the Broadcom 570x Gigabit Integrated Controller. I'm sure this is the source of my problem. Thank you for any feedback.

    Allan D,

Your last suggestion was Spot-On...thank you, excellent JOB!! My computer is better now than it ever was!! I do have a curious side-effect, though. When I connect to the DELL Diagnostics Page...the Product/Service Tag doesn't match any more. It thinks I'm on a Latitude D800...not the D600 I'm working with (I've had it FOREVER...LOL). Strange, huh?? Let me know if this will effect my updates, etc...please. It shows the same Service Tag, just a different Laptop#.

    Thank You, AGAIN!!!

    Respectfully,

    SpootyDog

    Hello,

Glad we could help by fixing your issue. In case of a similar situation in future, you can always refer to the link http://dell.to/YegVvF. Please feel free to reach out to us for any further help.

I would like to say that Latitude D600 and D800 belong to the same family (models). The minor changes between these 2 systems are:

    • D600 is a 14 inch laptop and D800 is 15.4 inch.
    • D600 has AMD graphics and D800 has NVidia Graphics.

Other than these, rest of the specifications is all same. Hence it might be showing as D800. Hence be rest assured about the updates. They are not going to get affected.
