cpu heat
My daughter gave me an Inspiron 5150 which she always left on and it runs well.
I read about the two recalls so checked the battery out and it is ok. However, the recall for the other problem has expire to my knowledge.
I think the cpu was generating so much heat it melter the platic and damaged the mother board.
I guess I'm stuck but for those who either build pcs or are quite proficient with this type of situation, would you try a premptive repair or just throw the dice? I don't know if all 5150s needed replacmnt or repair or if some are ok in spite of the structural fault.
Is there any thing I can do to minimize exposure to this hazard?
When the virus scan runs the fan runs along with it. I try to keep the screen over the fan clear and clean.
Well, any solid ideas appreciated.
Thank you

Hi Hidden
I read all the referrals and they range from some people getting it fixed after warranty to most people getting bounced around, to cleaning it yourself -at risk -,to leg stands.
Simple hey?
I think I'll blow it out best I can and keep the fan as clear as can be then que sera. I am not qualified to get into the fix and not able to formally persue the issue. If I were young and well I'd give it a try.
Thanx a lot.

Grampy Pete,
The Dell Inspiron 5150 has had problems with cooling! The problem lies that this notebook is a desktop replacment so there is a very powerful Intel Pentime 4 inside! The 5150 was NOT constructed verywell with the colling! So the fan on the bottom inhales in dust, clogs up then the prosser generates alot of heat and then the laptop dies! Go to this link, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dell_Inspiron and read about Problems Overheating.Your model is mentioned!
Sorry about the spelling,
