Inspiron 4000 touchpad problems
I'm having problems with the touchpad on my Inspiron 4000. The pointer will move erraticaly across the screen and burry itself in one corner. I have tried several things to fix the problem. I read one post that suggested opening the computer case and disconnecting and reconnecting the touchpad to remedy this problem. I tried the suggested fix and my touchpad was better for a few days. However, now the same problem is back. Is the connection on my motheboard going bad, or should I consdier replacing the touchpad on my computer? Are there any other fixes I should be trying?

I have tried disabling the trackstick. When I do this, my touchpad either does not respond or causes extremely coarse movements of the cursor. With this setting, it is common for the pointer to jump in 1" increments across the screen in the direction you are traveling and overshoot the intended destination.AussieChris

Hi,
The touch stick is most likely the culprit. Take the keyboard out, and try with an external. If all is well put in a new keyboard or cut the ( thin ) cable to the touch stick. Insulate the cut cable. If you disable the device within the OS, the touchpad will be slow and unresponsive.
