reformatting harddrive

I have purchased a new dell laptop. I wish to donate the old one. How do I completely clean off the drive drive for security reasons?

DBAN.

However, I think it is rather unfair to make someone else go out and buy Windows for a laptop you are donating to them.

You should wipe the hard drive and re-install Windows.

You can't. You need to contact Dell in your country. They will be able to reset the password if you prove ownership and if you pay them.
