I've noticed that there are Mac "compatible" & Mac "equivalent" monitors. The "equivalent" monitors are more expensive than the "compatible" monitors.

I've pretty much decided on the S2725DC.

I just had a thought. If I'm to get an extended warranty, it seems to me that a Dell extended warranty would be the best thing to do. Not a Geek Squad or some other extended warranty.

I noticed that there's free Mac software available for the monitor that controls the monitor. But there are 2 items. There's a driver & the actual app. Do I need to download both?

But I do concur with your thoughts on the warranty.

I've basically decided on the S2725DC.

I'm gonna start off with HDMI. My 2023 Mac mini has 2 Thunderbolt ports, so maybe upgrade to Thunderbolt/USB-C.

Is the USB port on the monitor for upgrading the firmware among other things? Is it also to create a USB hub? If that's the case, how do I switch from USB hub to Thunderbolt & back?

It seems that some of the monitors have a 3-year warranty & some have a 1-year warranty. Why is that?

Yes, the warranty varies by price class -- lower end monitors, 1 year, higher 3.

It is far more expensive to add a warranty extension after purchase than at purchase.

Does the USB-C port have more than 1 function? I assume that the monitor has firmware.

Can the USB-C cable be used for:

1) update the firmware?

2) upstream for the USB Hub?

3) in place of HDMI?

Does the extended warranty run concurrently with the factory warranty or consequently? That is, with the factory warranty at the same time or does the extended warranty follow after the factory warranty expires?

I suppose that there's an option in the checkout to add the extended warranty.

@dcs.79c​ The extended warranty will follow after the factory warranty. So if you purchase a 2 or 3 year warranty, then the monitor is covered up to 2 or 3 years, etc. The USB‑C port provides DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode with Power Delivery, so the maximum resolution is 2560 x 1440 at 144 Hz. Your Mac should be able to support this resolution. Using this C port does also indeed work as upstream for updating the firmware and enabling the additional downstream USB ports. HDMI will only be for video. You can refer to the full system specs with this link here.
