I know that each data domain folder is a storage unit. Why I have to create one folder as the doc suggest?

Hi Alessandro,

That I suppose is just an organizational setting. I mean, DD and NW interacting together requires this folder to be created, as the data will be stored in that particular folder, which for NetWorker it will be a pool, do you know what I mean? maybe I'm not explaining myself properly.

From the backup point of view NetWorker manages data using pools (let's say tapes pool) unit, so when using DD devices it requires that folder to be created as storage.

Well, that really depends, however best practices are:

Avoid configuring of more than 14 active SUs or mtrees on a single Data Domain system. Up to 99 SUs or mtrees may be defined.

NetWorker Data Domain (DD Boost) devices are created as sub-folders under

these SU (mtree) folders.

Ÿ Each DD Boost device should be associated with only a single NetWorker storage

node, although additional DFA clients are permitted. gClient direct file access

(DFA) deduplication environmenth on page 35 provides details.

Ÿ Each device is identified with a single NetWorker storage volume.

Ÿ There is no recommended limit on the number of NetWorker Data domain

devices that may be created. However, increasing the number of devices can impact Data Domain performance and maintenance.
