I have a 6024 that is not responding to ping requests. It had been up until yesterday when this problem started.

I have a PC that is connected to the 6024 via a console cable and I can normally get in that way if need be but I can't even connect via the console cable.

I tried using Tera Term Pro, Reflection and HyperTerminal with the following settings:

Bits per second: 115200
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: Hardware


Once connected I get nothing on the screen. Hitting the Enter key results in nothing most of the time and occasionally I get the following output (1 character per Enter key hit):

Now I know it's not the serial cable, I've used it before and it was working fine up until yesterday. The switch does not respond to ping requests so I'm assuming part of my configuration has been either changed or corrupted. I have acls on the switch so no one is getting to it that shouldn't be.

The odd thing is this happended to me before. I even brought my laptop along and connected to the 6024 with a new serial cable and had the same results. I ended up swapping out the 6024 with another 6024 I had and the replacement worked perfectly (that is up until yesterday).

When I brought the switch back to the office and powered it up on my desk the console session worked fine and my configuration was untouched (there was nothing wrong with it).

The switch does not respond to SNMP requests as well as the ping requests. It does however pass traffic and respond to arp requests.


Any suggestions before I have to take a road trip with another switch?
