You need to explain what you meen by not working
1. no lites on router at all (burned out)
2. wireless connection is not working, but if I connect by plugin wire into my laptop+router - everything works ok.
3. could you access router configuration screen or not.

Linksys, belkin , dell , netgear, microsoft - they all more or less compatible with dsl modems, otherwise noone will purchase this products. so it does not really matter what router to purchase (from copability point of view), more importatnly you need to find the problem that causing network to fail and find a solution on how to fix it.

I also find that both (dsl/cable) modems and routires sometimes not working after a while. the easiest solution is to unplug power from both, wait for 10 sec and plug power back - so they both will start refreshed. this happens to alot of my friends too. in averange once a month.

also, that happens too, if one of your devices (dsl modem , router or network card mulfunctioned) you cou course get problems.

I'd advice you to purchase new router + wireless network card combo, test everything on new devices, and when return new devices back to the store next day.

If you have the SpeedStream 5100B, you need to set it up as a bridge, and have your Linksys router do the PPPoE login to SBC.

The first eight steps in this Netgear Support article explain converting the 5100B to bridge mode very concisely and completely!
