It gets very difficult to keep things together if all of the information is not in the same thread. Since presumably you are using Internet Connection sharing to share a dial-up connection, you need to enable internet connection sharing on the dial-up connection first. Internet Connection sharing will assign IP addresses to both the network adapter on the computer that will dial up and on the network adapter on the other computer. Thus, both computers should be set to obtain an IP address automatically. To do this, go to Start > Control > Panel > Networking & Internet Connections > Network Connections, then double click on the network connection and select "Properties". Scroll down to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and then click on the "Properties" button. On the general tab is where you either set an IP address or choose to have it assigned automatically.
Steve, the only icons, network or otherwise, are Dial-up (AOL),Direct, and LAN. I tried doing what you suggested on each one and I still didn't get Internet Protocol window. I know I have seen it but I don't remember where or how.
Any more suggestions? I am sorry to be such a pest.
Steve, it was AOL that suggested it. I checked with the
www.homenet.help. I couldn't find what I needed. I am just about to give up. If I could just remember where it was I saw that protocol window. Any other ideas?
Ok, here's the problem with posting messages in more that one thread. I'm sure you have said before which version of Windows you are running, but not in this thread. I seem to recall it was Windows XP. Look at the pictures on the following page:
Steve, You are right, they are xp and thank you for that direct link to the right page on the homenet.help. I have configured mine (I think) now I will go and try to configure his (I hope). I will let you know what happens. Thank you sooooo much for your time and effort to try to help this dummy who is totally computer illiterate!!!
