Powervault 123T

Hi!

May we know what is the procedure to install PowerVault 124T on Windows 2008 R2. It is appearing in the device manager under Tape Drives as "IBM ULTRIUM-TD3 SCSI Sequential Device" but Symantec Backup Exec showing No Media under Tape Drive although there are tapes in both the magazines.

Is there something we are missing?

Thanks.

    Hello create_share,

What you need  to do is to check the 124T & make sure that it is set to random mode & not sequential.  You can do this from the Web utility by going to the configuration page and checking to ensure that it says random.   Once that is done then the 124T may need to reboot if changing mode.  Once completed then go back into device manger and do a scan & you should now see the medium changer.  Once the medium changer is present then run the tape install wizard for backup exec and it will install the drivers it needs for the drive & robot.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Well there is no option to select random or sequential in the web utility. It is showing "SCSI ID" which is set to 5 and "Compression", "Bar Code Reader", "Cleaning Type" Magazines" etc under Configuration.

    Thanks.

    Hello create_share,

What version of firmware are you running on the PV124T?  if it is not at V85 there here is a link to get the latest version.  www.dell.com/.../powervault-124t

Also if you look at the front panel of the 124T does it say RND or SEQ?  If it says SEQ then you will need to reboot the server that the 124T is attached to & it should change to RND.

Once that is done then check back into device manger and check to ensure that you see both the Medium Changer and the Tape drive.  The drive will show as an IBM drive which is normal.  Once both are seen in device manger then you can run backup exec tape device configuration wizard and it will install the drivers backup exec needs.

Let us know if have any other questions.

    Hi!

Still not detecting even after upgrading the firmware. It is showing now V86.0 (0056.0h). I have not yet upgraded the Tape Drive firmware. Is it also needed?

    Thanks.
