firmware updates prior to OS install
Hi Forum,
I ran into an issue on some new machines I am updating firmware on using RACADM commands. I went to check on a NIC firmware update that appeared to have completed, but the version of firmware the IDRAC was reporting did not update. I checked the console and it appears it was waiting for an input because no OS was installed. After clicking X and rebooting the server it then showed the correct firmware version.
How can I avoid this in the future? Would a better practice be to boot the server to BIOS, load the firmware updates, and then boot into the lifecycle controller to have them completed?
Does anyone have a document that describes the stages of the boot process where IDRAC finishes the firmware install and updates it's inventory? I could see that being very helpful.
Thanks for the help in advance! Screenshots below:
