Thanks for posting! Installing OMSA on the VMs won't do you any good, you need OpenManage Server Administrator on the host OS to talk to the hardware. Was it an internal problem that fried the server, or do you think maybe it was something external like a power surge the UPS couldn't stop?
We didn't want to be dependent on the host OS as next year for the ESX hosts, I'm told there won't be any OS. hence we wnat to be able to monitor from the CMC only.
As to the power, since none of the other servers in the chassis were a problem, whch I thought would be the case if there was a generic power surge, then I'm supposing that the issue we saw was a one-off server failure or a slot failure in the chassis.
But the real bug to us, is that we couldn't get any information from the systems as to what happened.
Can we get comprehensive monitoring via the CMC? Is there a trick to it?
