I want to make sure a design document I'm reviewing is accurate.
I thought the "FX" a vendor assigned to a switch for our project meant that the switch had fiber optic capabilities (FX - encoding on fiber optic), but the vendor told me that the "FX" solely referred to the PowerEdge FX2 name to which it is connected.
Is the FX2 just a random ID for the PowerEdge server, or is it meant to identify the server as optimal for fiber optic use?

They are interchangeable.

It may not have been at launch but it is now. See all manuals here.
On this page, Dell PowerEdge FD332 Owner's Manual - Terms used in this document, I see the comment, "NOTE: PowerEdge FD332 is not supported on the PowerEdge FX2 enclosure."
Is that accurate?

Hi,
The F stands for flexible. It is the chassis that can have servers, storage or networking devices inside. There are Fiber options available but not what it stands for.
